Art walk in Laguna is my favorite. [Actually, that's not true. Art walk anywhere is my favorite.] I'm not sure why Laguna is filled with artist studios and museums and art on the street. I get the feeling that life in Laguna is centered around art.
That fence hanging on the post says, "This gate hangs well and hinders none. Refesh and rest then travel on."
I'm taking an Elementary Art class this quarter. Our first assignment was to create something similar to Faith Ringgold's Tar Beach using our childhood memories and imagination as inspiration.
My motto for the class is this: just because this is an elementary art class, it doesn't mean that the art I create has to look like an elementary student made it!
Here is my piece:
It's a mixed media collage. And yes, I did use real wire to make a fence. It's not perfect, but I like it that way. I wanted the bottom part of the fence to look like it was cut because we really did cut the fence in real life to climb through to play in "Shadow Pass".

I shot this from my the car.It's off 3rd street near La Cienega in LA. I literally stopped in the middle of the road to take the photo and had cars honking at me! It was totally worth it. Hands down, it's my favorite thing that Alec has done.
It's hard to see, but he's mimicking Banksy with the girl holding the C balloon. He tied in the monopoly figure on the far left (that he put all around LA last year). I love it. And the people standing in between the faces. The whole thing is pure street art genius.

I have vanilla and chocolate cupcakes baking in the oven as I type this. M's apartment has been decorated with colorful paper for his birthday. Although technically his birthday is not until Friday, we're celebrating it together ahead of time. We will spend Friday through Sunday with his family in Santa Barbara celebrating with them. [I always like to do something special with just the two of us, so that's what this is all about!]
Spunky's new haircut makes her look like a bobble-head, and I can't help but laugh when I see her move her head like one! I'm not getting any better at the lion cut, but Spunky is always so good at letting me attempt to give her one.

Although I wish it weren't, it's true. I was beat up by a 5 year old on Saturday. I kid you not, I have bruises all over my body. In my defense, it was only because I could would not fight back. [If he was my child, it would have been a totally different story!] He pulled my hair, hit me, slapped me, kicked me, threw things at me and even bit me several times. The biting hurt the most (and left the worst marks)! Although he bit me several times, he only left two bad bite marks on my forearm and two on my legs. In the photo above you can see the two red bite marks on left [through the jeans I was wearing!] and a bruise on the right. In addition, he drew blood both times that he bit my arm. My forearm is still very swollen and you can make out the individual teeth marks in the scab!
Before I left on Saturday, I told the kid's mother about what he did but she didn't seem to do anything about it while I was there. I need to figure out how to write an email explaining to her that I will not be babysitting her abusive child anymore. I'm even tempted to attach the photos of my bruises and bite marks!
